Follow the numbers, one step at a time.
Three synthetic examples show the formula, comparison and per-package total. Every measurement and divisor is stated so you can check the arithmetic.

Bulky and light
Synthetic example A uses cm, a divisor of 5000 cm³/kg and no rounding. Dimensional weight of 14.4 kg exceeds actual weight of 4 kg. The comparison selects 14.4 kg although the scale reads only 4 kg.
60 × 40 × 30 ÷ 5000 = 14.4 kg
Actual: 4 kg → Selected: 14.4 kgNo dimension or weight rounding is applied in this example.

Compact and dense
Synthetic example B uses the same assumptions. Actual weight of 7 kg exceeds dimensional weight of 1.2 kg, so the selected value is 7 kg. A small volume does not necessarily mean a small comparison weight.
30 × 20 × 10 ÷ 5000 = 1.2 kg
Actual: 7 kg → Selected: 7 kgNo dimension or weight rounding is applied in this example.

Change just one assumption
Return to parcel A, changing only the divisor to 6000 cm³/kg. Dimensions and actual weight stay the same. Dimensional weight becomes 12 kg. This is a mathematical comparison, not a tariff that you can choose freely.
60 × 40 × 30 ÷ 6000 = 12 kg
Actual: 4 kg → Selected: 12 kgNo dimension or weight rounding is applied in this example.
